Make Your Own Mixes
For the April activity we received instruction and samples of how to make our own mixes.
We received the booklet Making & Using Master Mixes
Those who came to the activity received 3 samples of mixes: taco seasoning, homestyle buttermilk dressing (Making & Using Master Mixes booklet page 21), and cream of chicken soup (Making & Using Master Mixes booklet page 20).
We also ate muffins made from the muffin mix from Make-A-Mix Cookery (old version).
The old version of Make-A-Mix Cookery by Karine Eliason is out of print but you can purchase a new version on Amazon for about $16 called Make-A-Mix by Karine Eliason.
(We noticed that the muffin mix in the new version has much more sugar than the old version, but because you are the cook you can control the amount of sugar!)
There are also many free mix recipes online!

April 2016 Presidency Message
We all sin. We all make mistakes. We are human and it is
inevitable. This life is hard and sometimes we wonder how we can find
peace in these troubled times. We must look to our Savior Jesus Christ.
We must continue to repent and improve.
President Spencer W.
Kimball said "Working towards perfection is not a one time decision but
a process to be pursued throughout one's life."
We all need to try daily to makes ourselves better and to take advantage of the wondrous gift of the Atonement.
Shayne
M Bowen of the 1st Quorum of the Seventy said: "Just as the landfill
requires dedicated work and attention, laboriously applying layer after
layer of fill to reclaim the low-lying ground, our lives also require
applying layer after layer of the healing gift of repentance."
"Just
as the city fathers in Idaho Falls would feel bad about a person trying
to dig up old garbage, our Father in Heaven and His Son Jesus Christ
feel sorrow when we choose to remain in sin, when the gift of
repentance, made possible through the Atonement, can clean, reclaim and
sanctify our lives."
How grateful I am to my Savior, Jesus
Christ and His wonderful gift of the Atonement. I know I can find peace
in these troubled days as I read and study the scriptures and strive
harder to do better and find a personal relationship with my elder
brother, Jesus Christ.

March 2016 Presidency Message
I recently attended the funeral of my beloved father in Astoria
Oregon. He was a great husband, father, friend and WWII Veteran. I
loved him and will miss him dearly but felt complete peace at his
passing because of the Atonement of our Savior, Jesus Christ. I was
happy to read a recent article in the March 2016 Ensign by Elder
Russell M. Ballard on our Saviors Atonement. It helped reassure my
feelings of peace and hope. I would like to share some of what he said.
"There
is no greater expression of love than the heroic Atonement performed by
the Son of God. Were it not for the plan of our Heavenly Father,
established before the world began, in a very real sense, all mankind--
past, present, and future--would have been left without the hope of
eternal progression. As a result of Adam's transgression, mortals were
separated from God (see Romans 6:23)
and would be forever unless a way was found to break the bands of
death. This would not be easy, as it required the vicarious sacrifice of
one who was sinless and who could therefore take upon Himself the sins
of all mankind."
"Thankfully, Jesus Christ
courageously fulfilled this sacrifice in ancient Jerusalem. There in the
quiet isolation of the Garden of Gethsemane, He knelt among the gnarled
olive trees, and in some incredible way that none of us can fully
comprehend, the Savior took upon Himself the sins of the world. Even
though His life was pure and free of sin, He paid the ultimate penalty
for sin--yours, mine, and everyone who has ever lived. His mental,
emotional, and spiritual anguish were so great they caused Him to bleed
from every pore (see Luke 22:44, D&C 19:18).
And yet Jesus suffered willingly so that we might have all the
opportunity to be washed clean--through having =faith in Him, repenting
of our sins, being baptized by proper priesthood authority, receiving
the purifying gift of the Holy Ghost by confirmation, and accepting all
other essential ordinances. Without the Atonement of the Lord, none of
these blessings would be available to us, and we could not become worthy
and prepared to return to dwell in the presence of God."
How
grateful I am for the Savior. As we celebrate this Easter Season, let
us show gratitude to Him who has made our journey home possible by
pledging to do our best and trying harder to be the BEST kind of Relief
Society Sisters we can be.

February 2016 Presidency Message
Love; a simple word.
Share
it, show it, and give it freely.
Our Heavenly Father knows our
struggles and he wants to lift us up with his love. He has given us the knowledge
on how to return home, how to choose the right, again. Choosing the right is
not new to us. We chose before we came here.
The way is simple: search, ponder
and pray. Talk to your Heavenly Father, he also knows us and loves for us to
have joy and happiness.
C. Max Caldwell: As I searched the pages of the Book of
Mormon, I gained a new view. Mormon, an ancient prophet of the Americas,
connected the word charity to the Savior. He declared that “charity is
the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever.” (Moro. 7:47.) Forever is a hard word to
wrap the mind around. This life is so enveloped around time that forever seems
like something in a fairy tale. If we live the life that our brother Jesus
Christ wants for us then we can obtain true happiness, in this life and in our
forever in the world to come.

January 2016 Presidency Message
The Importance of
Learning in Our Homes
By Sister KLynn Miller
“Whatever
principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in
the resurrection. And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this
life through his diligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the
advantage in the world to come”. D &
C 130: 18-19.
This is one
of my favorite scriptures!!! It
emphasizes the importance of gaining knowledge. Don’t we all want to “have so
much the advantage in the world to come?”
We can
foster a love of learning in our homes from the time a child enters our home by
filling his/her world with letters, words, books and pictures. We can read
books and the scriptures to them and fill their minds with good music. Studies
have proven that children who listen to classical music have better brain cell
development. Once our children are in
school we shouldn’t think that our responsibility for teaching has ended. Children whose parents continue to read to
them throughout their years of schooling perform better in school. Family
scripture study where each family member takes a turn to read improves reading
skills. We can also have our children take turns preparing and teaching the
Family Home Evening lesson.
My husband
read good novels to our children as they were growing up. Such good books as
the “Chronicles of Narnia” series and other good books hold their attention and
they are excited for the next reading session to hear the next chapters.
As our
children have homework we can study with them, even finding ways to enrich what
they are studying. With such support
from home our children will develop an appreciation for and a love of
learning. When the home rightfully
assumes its teaching responsibility, the contributions made by school,
community and church programs can be greatly enhanced. Let us each accept the
challenge to be personally responsible for our families’ learning. We respect and honor our schools and the
Church as institutions that promote learning and faith but we need to recognize
that those resources are to help-not replace-the family.
“As we obey
the Lord’s commandment to teach our children, we will find that our families
enjoy greater unity, more joy in church and school and increased effectiveness
in mission, marriage and vocations.”
(Harvey B. Black professor of instructional science at BYU)
My oldest
daughter who completed her Master’s degree a couple of years ago said that it
was always clear in our home that learning and education was of utmost
importance. Her children tease her because she not only has degrees from
colleges but also technical certificates. (She even got one as a “flagger” one
summer when she was home from college.) She has always loved to learn. A college degree may not be for everyone but
there are trade and technical schools that teach skills that are needed in our
world and are good vocations.
“Seek ye
diligently,” the Lord said, “and teach one another words of wisdom; yea seek ye
out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by
faith.”
May we
strive to develop a love of learning that lasts throughout our mortal life. As
we do this the Lord will bless us with knowledge and wisdom and our
intelligence will increase.
